Factors That Determine the Service Life of Diamond Blades

Factors that determine the working efficiency and service life of diamond blade are mainly the sawing parameters, which include linear speed of the diamond saw blades, depth of cutting and feed velocity.

Linear Speed of Diamond Saw Blades
In the practical operation, the linear speed of the diamond saw blades are limited by many factors such as the equipment condition, quality of the blade and the characteristics of the cutting materials. Considering the best cutting efficiency and service life of the blades, the linear speed of diamond saw blades should be chosen according to the different characteristics of the cutting materials. For example, when cutting granite, the linear speed of diamond saw blades should be chosen between 25~35 m/s. For those granite which is high in quartz and hard to be cut, the linear speed should be as low as possible.

Depth of Cutting
Depth of cutting is an important parameter which is related with the weariness of the blade, effective cutting, loading stress of the diamond saw blades and the characteristics of the cutting materials. Generally speaking, when the linear speed of the diamond saw blades is high, the depth of cutting should be low. In terms of the current technique, the depth of cutting for diamond can be chosen between 1mm~10mm. With the permit of the performance of the sawing machine and the hardness of the saw blades, bigger depth of cutting can be chosen in order to improve the cutting efficiency of the diamond saw blades. When there is special requirement for the surface of the work piece, smaller depth of cutting should be applied.

Feed Velocity
Feed velocity refers to the feeding speed of the stone material which is going to be cut. The volume of feed velocity affects the cutting efficiency, loading stress of the diamond blade and the radiating condition at the cutting area. Feed velocity should be determined by the characteristics of the cutting materials. Generally, for cutting softer stones like marble, feed velocity can be raised properly, but lower feed velocity can help to improve the cutting efficiency. For cutting even and fine granite, feed velocity can also be raised properly, because low feed velocity may get the cutting edge of the diamond blade worn down. However, for cutting rough and uneven granite, the feed velocity should be lowered down. Otherwise, it will cause vibration of the diamond blade and even crack the diamond. The feed velocity for cutting granite should be chosen between 9~12 m/min.

Other factors such as the grain size of the diamond and the hardness of the bonding agent also affect the cutting efficiency and service life of diamond blade. Together with the sawing parameters, these factors should be fully considered during the use of diamond blade.
