Diamond blade

Diamond blades are heavy duty construction tools that should be handled with utmost care at all times. Even professionals take extra safety precautions when handling these types of equipment, so if you are using diamond blades for some concrete and masonry dry sawing, here are some safety tips to keep in mind.

1. Wear proper safety gear. This includes, but not limited to, safety glasses, safety footwear, snug-fitting clothes, head gear and respiratory equipment when necessary. When doing construction work, avoid wearing unnecessary accessories.

2. Read the manual and make sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation on specification of material to be cut and suitability for dry cutting applications. Not all diamond blades can cut dry, so make sure you have the right type of blade for the job. Additionally, follow your manufacturer’s advice on the operating speeds for specific blade diameters. Remember, your diamond blade manufacturer knows best.

3. Before starting the cutting job, double check the diamond saw blades to see if there are any damages incurred during shipping (if it’s new) or due to previous use (if it is borrowed or rented). Check for core flatness, fatigue cracks, diamond segment damage, damage to the arbor hole and undercutting. It is also advisable to check the saw machine beforehand.

4. During start-up or operation, do not stand in direct line with dry diamond or abrasive blades. Also, do not cut or grind with the sides of your diamond blade.

5. During operation, maintain a firm grip on hand-held saws. Do not force the blade into the material because this may cause the overheating or blade damage.

6. When dry cutting, do not make long continuous cuts with the diamond blade. Allow for some cooling time every few minutes. As a general rule of thumb, the harder the material is, the more cooling time it should be given.

7. Do not use your diamond blade to cut other material other than what is recommended by the manufacturer.
