Diamond saw blades is a kind of cutting tools which is widely used in the processing of hard and brittle materials like stone and ceramic. The diamond saw blade is mainly made up of two parts: the basal corpuscle and the cutter head. The basal corpuscle is the major supporting part for the cutter head. The cutter header played a cutting role in the using process. It will be consumed in the process while the basal corpuscle will not. The cutting function of the diamond blade owing to it content diamond, the hardest material. The diamond particles in the cutter head are wrapped by metal.

There are many factors that affect the working efficiency and life of the diamond saw blades like cutting parameters, diamond particle size and concentration and binder hardness.

Effects of cutting parameters on diamond saw blades:

1. The blade line speed: in the practical work, the blade line speed is restricted by the equipment condition, quality of the saw blade and properties of the cutting material. In terms of the best saw blade service life and cutting efficiency, the line speed of the saw blade should be chosen according to different properties of various materials. When cutting the granite, its line speed should be selected in the area of 25m-35m/s. For granite with high quartz content which is hard to cut, the line speed at 35m/s is suitable.

2. The cutting depth: cutting depth is an important parameter which involves diamond consumption, effective cutting, stress condition of the saw blade, and properties of the cutting material. Generally speaking, small cutting depth should be selected when the blade line speed is high. In terms of current technology, the cutting depth of the diamond core bits could be selected in the range of 1mm-10mm. When using the saw blade with a large diameter cutting the granite, the cutting depth could be controlled in 1mm-2mm and at the same time the cutting speed should be lower. Large cutting depth should be selected when the line speed of the diamond saw blade is high. However, larger cutting depth should be chosen within the scope of the saw blade performance and cutting tool strength in order to improve the cutting efficiency.

3. The cutting speed: cutting speed refers to the feed speed of the cutting stone material. The speed affects the cutting rate, stress condition of the saw blade and heat dissipation of the blade. Its dereferencing depends on the properties of the cutting material. Usually, the cutting speed is in the range of 9m-12m/min when cutting granite.

Other factors like the diamond particle size, cutter head concentration and binder hardness also affect the life of tile saw blades. A full understanding of these factors and the right selection can be helped to apply the diamond saw blades into industrial production better.
